1930-31c. Westinghouse Electric & MFG. Company, Springfield, MA.,U.S.A., 16” Antique “Debonaire” Table Fan
Westinghouse Electric Company introduced this unique and rarely seen model during the beginning of the Depression. It featured Art Deco styling that included a smooth sculptured base and octagonal blade guard. The motor is the standard Westinghouse design that circulates a massive amount of air, while doing so quietly. This model is rarely seen today especially in the 16” size. A 10” version was also available and can generally be obtained.
Westinghouse manufactured the “Debonaire” for a very short time, likely only one or two years. The Debonaire was a premium fan that performed superbly, but their untimely introduction, during the Great Depression likely contributed to their demise. We speculate that their outstanding Art Deco styling might not have been appreciated enough by consumers who were counting every dollar.
The Debonaire shown in this gallery was restored for a client while preserving the original finish. Some of the features of the Debonaire model are:
16” Blade with Octagonal Guard
Sculptured Art Deco Styling
Premium Westinghouse Motor
Unique Collector Model, Seldom Seen.
3 Speed Motor with Full Oscillation
Convertible to Wall Mounting.
